As part of its annual scientific activities, the Faculty of Nursing held a lecture titled "Gender-Based Violence" on Saturday, August 17, 2024, at 12:00 PM in the college library. The event was attended by Dr. Iyad Khalil, Director of the Quality Assurance Center, alongside the college administration represented by Dean Dr. Lubna Dawood and Vice Dean for Academic Affairs, Dr. Alaa Tawil, as well as college staff, a representative from the Vice President’s office for academic affairs, and several faculty members and students.

The lecture provided a definition of gender-based violence and the essential concepts needed to understand it, such as the distinction between sex and gender, and human rights. A group activity was conducted that involved sharing inherited proverbs that promote violence against women.

The lecture then addressed the types of gender-based violence, including physical, verbal, psychological, sexual, economic violence, and deprivation of access to resources. The discussion also included the "violence problem tree" and the root causes represented by customs, traditions, religious and social constraints, inequality, and contributing factors that exacerbate violence, such as poverty, ignorance, addiction, and the absence of punishment and laws.

The consequences of violence on the physical, psychological, social, and economic health of survivors were discussed, followed by proposed solutions such as providing assistance and support, encouraging victims to report incidents, raising community awareness about the dangers of violence, distributing responsibilities, implementing strict penalties, and reforming laws
