Scientific Affairs Board Meeting

The Board of Scientific Affairs held an extraordinary meeting at 9:30 a.m. on Friday, 12/15/2023. The meeting was attended by all representatives of the university faculties, as listed below: Dr. Kanaan Al-Tamimi, Dr. Manal Darwish, Dr. Alaa Tawil, Dr. Ayman Al-Kayyal, Dr. Ayman Shiha, Dr. Rasha Hamdoush, Dr. Muhammad Da’er, Dr. Raiaan Kabakli, Dr. Sawsan Ismail, and Dr. Sami Shadoud. Engineer Mohsen Abbas and Engineer Mahmoud Wasel also attended the meeting as permanent meeting guests representing the university website team. The meeting was honored by the presence of Prof. Dr. Hussain Mayhoub Salman, President of the University, who enriched the meeting with his comments and feedback, which were the sum of his valuable experience during his presidency of the Board of Scientific Affairs, as he held the position of University Vice President for Scientific Affairs for more than a decade.

 

Below are the minutes of the meeting:

 

1 - Based on the directives put forward by the President of the University and his kind moral support for developing the website, serious and diligent work needs to be done to develop the university website due to its importance in introducing the university’s activities at the scientific, research, and administrative levels as well as all aspects of the academic work at the university;

2- The mechanisms for uploading data and activities on the site must be determined centrally, through what each college provides in terms of scientific, academic, research, student activities, and many others;

3- A member of the technical or administrative body in each faculty, in addition to the faculty scientific vice dean, must be nominated, to be responsible for maintaining and updating the faculty’s page in the university website and to be in direct coordination with the IT engineers who work on updating the university website;

4- Effort must be made to make every activity carried out by faculties valuable enough to contribute to supporting the faculty and the university in a way that is consistent with the university policy and objectives;

5- It was decided to finish uploading all the CVs of all faculty and technical staff members in the faculties on the university website after updating them accurately;

6- Accessibility to the university website by visitors (from inside and outside the university) is adopted as a measure of the site’s activity and its ability to attract visitors, researchers, or other scientific bodies;

7- Websites of neighboring academic or research institutions are to be considered as important sites, and they are to be urged to adopt our website as a reference site or to communicate with websites with which they have joint cooperation agreements;

8- The board unanimously approved the proposals of the IT Committee supervising the site to establish a plan to develop the website to achieve progress in the university’s classification. (Attached is a copy of the proposals)       

9- The Scientific Affairs Board has proposed to adopt a formula for honoring the distinguished faculty in regards to publications and research contributions; an Annual Scientific Excellence Shield is to be granted to the faculty mostly distinguished by scientific and research activity, especially scientific publishing wise.

10- Dr. Engineer Ayman Al-Kayyal, Vice Dean for the Faculty of Biomedical Engineering, is assigned to submit proposals for the shield to be approved and presented to the University Council to choose the appropriate suggestion.

11- The establishment of an advanced scientific research laboratory is proposed to be dedicated to conducting scientific research and to be equipped with possible advanced and modern equipment by selecting what is available in the university’s laboratories, in addition to equipment to be purchased. All faculties are asked to submit their suggestions to cross reference and choose the appropriate one.

12- The Scientific Affairs Board proposes to allocate (100) million Syrian pounds annually to support scientific research and provide its requirements (or what the University Board and the Board of Trustees deem appropriate)

13-Any other (arising) affairs: none.

14- The meeting concluded at 11:00 a.m. on its date.
