Pharmacy Faculty Participates in 24th Conference of Scoiety of Pharmacy Faculties of Arab World and Centenary of Damascus University

The Faculty of Pharmacy has participated in the activities of the twenty-fourth conference of the Scientific Society of the Faculties of Pharmacy in the Arab World and the Centenary of the University of Damascus through an invitation addressed to the Deanship of the Faculty, Dr. Suzan Samra.

A lecture was delivered by Prof. Dr. Mhd Amer Al-Mardini, entitled: “Developments in Pharmaceutical Technology: 3D Printing of Medicines.”

Another lecture was delivered by Dr. Amal Zuheir Yousfan (Head of the Pharmaceutics Department), entitled: “Applications of Polymeric Nano- and Microstructures to Enhance Nasal and Pulmonary Targeted Drug Delivery Strategies.”

The university also participated in a section that included seventeen posters, seven of which were for research articles published in internationally peer-reviewed journals and classified under the Scopus classification under the name of Prof. Dr. Eng. Kanaan Al-Tamimi (Head of the Microbiology Department - Faculty of Pharmacy) with a group of researchers, and eleven posters for graduation projects for the academic year 2022-2023, part of which is researches under publication by students:  Maya Hussein, Angie Mikhail, Aya Daoud, Hadi Attia, Maymana Hanano (supervised by Dr. Amal Yousfan); Sally Abbas, Ali Ahmad (supervised by Dr. Roshan Mubarak), Aya Qasem, Al-Zahraa Salim, Abeer Ramadan, Tala Mouawad, Marvel Al-Mousa (supervised by Dr. Suzan Samra and Dr. Mai Al-Boudi); Hajar Al-Mohammed, Raghad Ismail (supervised by Dr. Manhal Yousef); Julanar Hammoud and Hala Sudan (supervised by Dr. Mhd Amer Al-Mardini, Dr. Manhal Youssef, Dr. Manal Darwish, and Ms. Raiaan Kabakli); Ola Marouf, Lynn Hammadi, Alaa Sheikh Al-Bustana, and Mahmoud Al-Hajj (supervised by Dr. Manal Darwish - Dr. Dima Ibrahim, Dr. Hala Sudan,  Dr. Ali Ali, and Ms. Raiaan Kabakli).

The section included a group of pharmaceutical forms prepared under the supervision of Dr. Nour Maamari, a member of the educational staff in the Department of Pharmaceutics, and a set of cosmetics prepared by the students Alaa Sheikh Al-Bustana and Mahmoud Al-Hajj. The two students also participated in a plant-based weight loss product that was part of their graduation project.

The section was supervised by Dr. Manal Darwish, Scientific Vice Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy, and Ms. Raiaan Kabakli made a group of posters of the section.

The conference was attended by eighteen students who contributed with their student posters, along with 30 fourth and fifth year students who attended the conference activities. It should be noted that Dr. Mai Al-Boudi was the supervisor of the participating students.

Also present in the university section was Dr. Roshan Mubarak, staff member in the Department of Microbiology; Dr. Rania Youssef, member of the educational body in the Department of Analytical Chemistry and Food Chemistry; and colleague Younis Dais, the head of the administrative body.

The university section was visited by the Minister of Higher Education, Dr. Bassam Ibrahim; Minister of Education, Prof. Dr. Mhd Amer Al-Mardini; Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy at Damascus University, Prof. Dr. Lama Youssef; Director of the Blood Bank, Dr. Alia Al-Assad; those responsible for the Pharmacists of Tomorrow Page; as well as the Scientific Committee for evaluating posters, student projects, and many educational and student events.

Methods of activating joint scientific cooperation between Al Andalus University and the University of Damascus on the one hand and Al Andalus University and the participating universities on the other hand were discussed, and it was agreed to hold periodic meetings to develop an action plan for joint scientific research.

The conference concluded with the students Alaa Sheikh Al-Bustana and Mahmoud Al-Hajj (supervised by Dr. Manal Darwish and Dr. Dima Ibrahim) winning first place as the best student graduation project among private Syrian universities.

The section of Al Andalus University at the conference was nominated as the strongest section.
