Prof Salim presented in his lecture the recent applications of laser in the field of dentistry. A great interest in laser advancements and applications has been expressed since the disclosure of important and positive results of laser use in the field of medicine, such as ophthalmology and cardiology. It has also been used successfully in various industries.
Prof Salim pointed out that there were various types of laser that had been used in dentistry to perform oral surgery treatments, gingivectomy, orthodontics and dental treatment. The advancements in dental laser treatment are very promising, especially with regard to the replacement of the air turbine handpiece, which is considered uncomfortable for patients due to vibrations and noise associated with tooth drilling.
Prof Salim talked also about the widening of the field of laser applications to include its applications in endodontic dentistry, such as diagnosis, root canal preparation, pulp capping, pulpotomy, root canal sterilization, root canal cleanliness and filling, etc.
