A Group of Pharmacy Faculty Students Visits the National Commission for Biotechnology, Chamain Factory, and the Biotechnology Laboratory in the Science Faculty- Damascus University

Under the auspices of the Deanship of the Faculty of Pharmacy,

A scientific trip, organized by the faculty's student body, was conducted to Damascus on Thursday 2-6-2022. The visit included the following places:

- The National Commission for Biotechnology

- Faculty of Science at Damascus University

- Chamain Factory

The National Commission for Biotechnology:

The Director General of the Commission, Prof. Dr. Nizar Issa, welcomed the students of the Pharmacy Faculty of Al-Andalus University and introduced them to the National Commission for Biotechnology, its laboratories and their activities, and the Commission's most important research areas. 

Then the students visited the Laboratory of Animal and Medical Biotechnologies. Dr. Hassan Mahdi, the head of the laboratory, and doctoral candidate, Sawsan Suleiman, explained the research laboratory's work on stem cells and animal and human cell lines.

The group also visited the Laboratory of Biotechnology for Food Industries, where Dr. Bassam Al-Okla, head of the laboratory, acquainted the students with the laboratory's most important researches and liquid and gas chromatography devices, along with their work mechanism. 

The visit was concluded in the Laboratory of Medicinal Plant Technologies. Dr. Yousef Al-Amouri, head of the laboratory, introduced the students to the techniques of cell culture, callus transplantation, and the most important ongoing body of research on medicinal plants and active pharmaceutical substances extracted from them.

Many thanks are due to Dr. Hijazi Mando, who coordinated the visit, accompanied the students, and supervised their tours.

Faculty of Science at Damascus University:

Dr. Shadi Sukkarieh, Director of the Biotechnology Laboratory, gave a presentation explaining the research activity of the laboratory. Later during the visit, a group of post graduate students in the laboratory familiarized the students with the existing laboratory paraphernalia and their benefits. 

Chamain Factory: 

Dr. Rama Ashour introduced the students to the factory departments and their work mechanism in the production lines.

The trip was supervised by the Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy, Dr. Manhal Youssef, and the Vice Dean for Scientific Affairs, Dr. Manal Darwish. It was organized by the faculty's administrative body, represented by students, Aws Sakoor and Younis Dais.
