Graduate Seminar at the Faculty of Medicine, Titled: Advances in the Management of End-Stage Renal Disease

Under the patronage of the president of Al Andalus University, a graduate seminar, titled: Advances in the Management of End-Stage Renal Disease (ESRD), was held at the Faculty of Medicine on Sunday, 14th March, 2021. The project is prepared by Adele Bashour and Cindy ad-Dabet, and supervised by Prof Abdul Fattah Abbas.
The goal of the project is to explore the traditional and new treatment modalities of ESRD. The students presented the concept of chronic renal disease and its various stages. Then, the two traditional treatment modalities, i.e. dialysis and kidney transplant, were explained focusing on the complications of each treatment.
A new treatment modality, the bioartificial kidney, was then introduced explaining its principles and mechanism, and exploring the obstacles facing its application.
At the end of the seminar, a discussion about the presented topics was held.
