A Workshop on the Prospects of the Development of the Maths and Biostatistics Curriculum in Al-Andalus University Faculties

Under the patronage of Prof. Dr. Mohammed Amer Al-Mardini, University President, the activities of "The Development of Basic Sciences Courses at Al-Andalus University" program were launched with a workshop on the prospects for developing the mathematics and biostatistics curriculum in the faculties of Al-Andalus University, in the university’s grand auditorium on Saturday 5-11-2022.

Prof. Dr. Hasan Baddour, the supervisor of the maths program, opened the activities of the workshop, outlined its objectives, and welcomed its attendees.

Then Prof. Dr. Muhammad Yehya Mualla, Chairman of the Academic Accreditation Committee, gave a speech highlighting the importance of the workshops that will be held successively at the university on the development of basic sciences curricula. The talk involved three topics: the maths and biostatistics curricula in the world leading universities, the maths and biostatistics curriculum in the faculties of Al-Andalus University, and references accredited in European universities with the aim of filling the gaps, if any, and in accordance with the requirements of European scientific accreditation, especially ACQUIN Foundation.

Then Prof. Dr. Mohammad Amer Al-Mardini, University President, delivered a speech in which he pointed out the global importance of basic sciences in building and developing other sciences. 

During the workshop, Dr. Hassan Badour, Dr. Muhammad Sweiqat, Dr. Layal Ali, Dr. Hassan Khalifa, and Dr. Hussein Ali reviewed the status of teaching and contents of the maths and biostatistics courses at Al-Andalus University. Then the lecturers compared them to those of the leading universities in the world. After the discussion of points of difference, the points of similarity, which reached nearly 80%, were highlighted. International references and journals in the field of maths and their impact factor were reviewed, as well as ways to develop the maths curriculum at Al-Andalus University to keep pace with what is taught in the world leading universities.
