Lecture at the Faculty of Pharmacy: Pharmacy Ethics and Professional Responsibility

Dr. Bassam Al-Mohammad delivered a lecture titled "Pharmacy Ethics and Professional Responsibility," attended by the Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Dr. Abdul Nasser Harfoush, the Vice President for Administrative Affairs, Dr. Ali Ibrahim, the Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy, Dr. Manhal Youssef, along with a group of doctors, students, and staff.

The lecture included a general explanation of ethics and how their concepts have changed over time and place. The speaker addressed three ethical theories:

1. Relativism, which resulted in the doctrine of Utilitarianism.

2. Virtue Theory, which resulted in the doctrine of Virtue.

3. Duty Theory, which resulted in Kantianism.

The speaker clarified the difference between ethics, etiquette, and law, considering ethics as a personal choice and non-binding, etiquette as a professional commitment, and law as a geographical obligation.

The speaker also mentioned fundamental universal principles of ethics: respect for autonomy, beneficence, non-maleficence, and justice.

Additionally, the lecture covered the following pharmacy-related topics:

1. Who is allowed to practice as a pharmacist.

2. Professional misconduct in pharmacy.

3. The relationship between doctors and pharmacists.

4. Prohibitions in pharmacy.

The speaker provided several examples of mistakes that pharmacists might make and how to avoid them.

 

The lecture took place in the main auditorium on Saturday, March 30, 2024.
