A Visit by Al-Andalus University Delegation to George Emil Palade University in Romania within the Framework of Erasmus+ Programme

Within the framework of the Erasmus+ programme, which is funded by the European side, and based on the agreement signed between George Emil Palade University in Romania and Al-Andalus University for Medical Sciences, an official AU delegation visited the Romanian university between 1st and 7th May, 2002. The AU delegation was headed by Prof Dr Mohammed A’amer Al-Mardini, president of Al Andalus University, and consisted of Dr Hussein Salman, the University Vice President for Scientific Affairs, and Dr Shadi Al-Azmeh, Coordinator of AU International Relations. The aim of the visit was to enhance scientific and academic cooperation between the two academic institutions.

The program of the visit included a set of important activities and meetings, which was culminated in signing of a memorandum of understanding between the two universities. The delegation was given a guided tour in the Faculty of Medicine, Faculty of Dentistry and Faculty of Pharmacy, during which discussions with the deans of those faculties about the quality of the educational and research processes took place.

In addition, the delegation paid a visit to the clinics and research centers at the university, where the available equipment and research projects carried out by the research centers were explored. During a meeting between the delegation and the Romanian university president and its director of International Relations Office, Prof Al-Mardini provided some information about Al-Andalus University and answered the host's inquiries pertaining to the aspects of education, research, quality and international relations at Al-Andalus University. Furthermore, the two parties have agreed to strengthen the mutual relationship between the two universities, where the Romanian side expressed its willingness to receive a number of academic staff members and students during the coming year as part of the Erasmus + programme.

AU Coordinator of International Relations has introduced Al-Andalus University by talking about AU strategy and objectives during a recorded TV interview. The interview was later showed on the official channel of the Romanian university.

Finally, the delegation concluded its visit by meeting some of the Syrian students studying at the Romanian university, to discuss study related issues, and by inviting the president of the Romanian university to visit Al Andalus University soon.
