· Module Description
This module introduces students to the evolutionary history of biological diversity and basic concepts in biology. Students learn about the different life domains, the main kingdoms in these domains, the most important animal groups in each kingdom and the general characteristics of each group. The module also includes the study of the animal cell in terms of general structure, chemical composition, and comparison with the plant cell.
· Assessment methods
o 40%: Class activity.
o 60%: End-of-term exam.

Introduction to biology, general structure of cell (1-2-3), prokaryotes, cell communication, mechanism of evolution and molecular genetics.
