The concept of digital systems and digital computer - microprocessors 8 bit, 16 bit and 32 bit - architecture of processors - multiprocessor systems - addressing modes - instructions set - programming using assembly language - interrupt systems - input, output, and timing devices - memory devices - future trends of microprocessor systems - series interconnections - parallel interconnections and direct access to RAM - programmed interconnection of input and output – conversion of analogue and digital data - compact systems - practical applications in biomedical engineering.
