The students will acquire the basic knowledge and understanding in engineering mechanics, especially the study of force systems, their analysis and balance of objects.

• Assessment Methods

40%: Class activity.

60%: Final-term exam.

Fundamental principles of mechanics – force vectors – vectors in space – balance of material point – moment systems – couple – scalar relationship – equivalent system – balance of a solid object – analysis of beams – internal forces – friction – centre of gravity - moment of inertia – virtual work – practical engineering applications.
