Forensic Toxicology

.Module Description

Module Goals

This module aims to introduces the student to the legal or forensic side of poisoning. It highlights the skills needed to detect and identify poisoning, especially from an organic and analytical point of view, which a pharmacist can do effectively. The module also aims to enable students to identify pharmacological and non-pharmacological common intoxications, and the methods required to detect them after death through qualitative and laboratory tests.

Assessment Methods

Module Syllabus

This module pursues what was started in the previous toxicology modules but focusing on the medical and forensic side of poisoning. The module presents the main methods, techniques and skills used in postmortem detection of toxins. The toxic substances discussed here are drugs and substances commonly used to terminate life (self or criminal), mineral and organic substances encountered in certain professions and narcotics that often lead to death after periods of abuse.
