Analytical Chemistry 2

Module Description

Module Goals

This module aims to make the student:

  • master the general theory of separation efficiency and different separation techniques
  • understand distribution coefficients, simple extraction and types of separation methods
  • master the methods of chromatographic separation and analysis by using planar chromatography (thin layer chromatography (TLC)) and traditional column chromatography
  • master modern chromatographic methods such as gas chromatography (GC), high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC), classical electrophoresis (EP) and capillary electrophoresis (CEP).

Assessment Methods

  • Individual questions during the lecture, quizzes covering the period of completion of the course, evaluation of external activities, theoretical and practical tests. These constitute 40% of total mark of the
  • A final exam constituting 60% of total mark.

Module Syllabus

The theoretical fundamentals of the separation of a solute, separation techniques, liquid-liquid extraction, and chromatographic separation and analysis methods.
