Physical Pharmacy 1
.Module description
- Module Goals
This module aims to provide the physical and scientific fundamentals of the pharmaceutical phenomena and systems, which enable the student to understand the physical factors that control the production of the dosage forms, their properties and usage. It also aims to build a primary system of information related to the physical characteristics of pharmaceutical substances that affect the dosage form, as well as to introduce the student to physical rules and factors related to the pharmaceutical production.
- Assessment Methods
Midterm test + homework + final term exam.
- Module Syllabus
The general properties of solid materials, especially the physical properties of crystals and their impact on the solid final form
The physical properties of gases and volatile agents and the rules and correlations that govern the behaviour of these substances.
A general study of the physical and chemical properties of drugs in solutions, where the student gets introduced to concentration units, thermodynamics and osmotic properties of pharmaceutical solutions.
